Game Highlights

Emily Shannon and Alexa D'Alessandro defeated Lauren Lindros and Diana Perirano, 6-4, 4-6, 6-4, in first doubles.

Talk about strange. In the third set it was getting a little frustrating that one of the girls opponents called a few shots, "out" that were clearly "in". Our girls finally asked for a coach to be a line judge. Their opponent was quite upset.

At 5-4 the girls finished with a very long point that ended in them hitting a shot that the opposition could not return, and it hit the net. We, (Connie, and I and Alexa's mom) applauded as you do any exciting, long point. The girls mother from the other team went crazy and ran to get her daughters coach. She tells us we're rude and you should never applaud another girls failure. She has her coach come over to reprimand us. As this is happening her daughter falls to the ground and starts crying.

We're trying to explain that we would never applaud someones failure. We were applauding the outcome of a long point and a good shot by our girls that made it impossible to return. The coach tells us we need to sit on our hands the rest of the match.

Bottom line, some of our girls remember that this is not the first time this girls match has ended in tears. Parents from the other team were sitting with us and they didn't think we did anything wrong. How frustrating.

Luckily Emily and Alexa won the final game without letting them score a point, but I'm sure the vile, upsetting parents that caused a girl to cry, are being used as their excuse for a lose.

What a crazy sport. The only high school sport where you get in trouble for supporting your child. The funny thing is, this mother had... only a few points earlier... applauded when one of our girls hit a shot long. Can you imagine sitting at a baseball game, your team is up at bat and you're down by a few runs, the bases are loaded, your son hits a hard ground ball to the shortstop, it hits his glove, shoots over his head into center-field and 2 runs score..... but you have to sit there and say to yourself.... I can't applaud and cheer because that boy made an error and we're not allowed to applaud another child's failure.

The only failure here was a failure by a parent and a coach. Taking the side of a girl who has a history of acting like a baby.
