SEATTLE (Reuters) - The Seattle Mariners' Ichiro Suzuki broke a long-standing Major League record with his 258th hit of the season, a third-inning single against the Texas Rangers on Friday.
The Japanese rightfielder first equaled George Sisler's 84-year-old mark of 257 hits with a first-inning single before setting the new standard on a base hit to center field.
