Over the years I have always sent my holiday gift directly to the person I pay my subscription fee to. I was recently informed that the district person I'm sending that money to is responsible for many routes and many delivery people. They don't actually deliver my paper, they manage the person who provides that service to me. Those holiday gifts are not finding their way back to the actual people who deliver our papers. They are going to the people who sit back in a warm office and handle billing, hiring etc.
I find this unbelievable. I think every Newsday subscriber should be made aware of this. The people getting up in the wee hours of the morning and delivering our paper in all types of weather, are not receiving the monetary 'thank you' that we expect would be going to them.
A Newday delivery person I know informed me that last year, they had to insert a Holiday card from their district manger into the paper. They had to do the work adding the card to the newspaper, they had to deliver the newspaper and they got NOT ONE CENT of the holiday money collected.
This would be like going to a restaurant and having the manager come over to accept the tip for all the work your waiter/waitress just did.
Newsday.... please get the holiday gifts into the right hands.
