DIRECTV App for iPad needs to STREAM

Last night I tried out the DirecTV app for the iPad.  For what it does it is well designed and very functional.  Unfortunately all it really does is make your iPad a big customizable remote control.  After playing with it for 30 min I really could't see myself getting rid of my regular handheld remote and replacing it with my iPad.

If DirecTV wants to compete, then the app should allow you to stream content that's on the DVR to an iPad.

While you're at it DirecTV, let's make getting these DVR boxes online a bit easier.  Go out and get an AppleTV - not even the new one - you can look at the original.  To deliver a DVR unit that doesn't have built in wi-fi is not acceptable.  If Apple can do it in a $99 unit, it shouldn't be difficult.  Connecting the DirecTV unit via wi-fi required the purchase of an additional wi-fi adapter and the setup and configuration was painful.  I'm a tech geek.  If it took me hours to debug and resolve issues, then let's face it - most average folks are probably just giving up.  AppleTV, just worked out of the box and the set up was painless.

Bottom line - the iPad app is fun to play with, but I don't see it replacing my remote.  Let me STREAM my content.

Well I think you are right, why have an ipad app if it doesn't stream. Working at Dish Network I keep up on technology from the providers, and this one from Directv... isn't that great. I mean I suppose if you enjoy taking a $29.00 remote and putting it into a $500.00 Ipad, then its all for you, but if you can't stream to it what good is it? You can tell your friends on facebook and twitter what you are watching... let me ask you this... do your friends really care what you are watching? I will stick with my sling adapter, at least that way I can stream live tv, recorded DVR's or online through the DRA app to my ipad, anywhere I am. Might not be a remote control, but... well there isn't really a downfall.

I definitely agree with Shaun. The DTV app is nice, but it’s still not giving customers the most amount of value. I too have an employee account with DISH Network and I’ve been using the DISH Remote Access app with my Sling Adapter as well so I can watch live and pre-recorded programs as well. I do love it, but I’ll be moving out on my own soon and I wanted to make sure that DISH Network was giving me the best value for the lowest price and I came across this site http://besttvforme.com/ and it outlined the major TV companies from fees to customer service and by far, DISH is the company that faired the best. I know that wherever I go, the DISH is sticking with me.
