Employers blocking web site access

Loved this tech dirt article. This discussion has been going on in my company since the beginning of the Web back in the mid-1990's There was a paranoid fear by many middle managers that access to the Internet would bring productivity to a crawl. I remember our CIO arguing that if an employee wants to waste time they can read a book, they don't need the Internet.

This comment was very insightful, don't you think?

Another study about online social networks has discovered the obvious: people with photos are more likely to be contacted by strangers, and girls get more unwarranted attention than guys. Perhaps the next study could address the "hottness" factor?

It was my second job in a hospital and I was saying how great it was to have 4 weeks vacation. he told me that 4 weeks was the minimum vacation in England and most people got 6. I remember he said, "I don't know how you Americans tolerate having only two weeks to yourself for an entire year."

Just as I predicted

Before the iPhone even hit the store I said that Apple would be stupid if they didn't release the iPhone (minus the phone but leave the WiFi) as the next video iPod. Hopefully before Christmas.

Chances are good that in the not-too-distant future you'll be able to buy an iPod in that slick form factor without needing to sign your life away to AT&T for two years. That's because analysts are predicting a new sixth generation of iPods that will be announced by January of 2008.There's talk of the new iPods being flash-based, just like the iPhone, but I think that's unlikely. Due to the facts that large flash hard drives are still insanely expensive and that Apple will want to differentiate between the iPhones and iPods. My guess: 100GB and 120GB touchscreen iPods, which would put the nails in the coffin of any thoughts I had about buying an iPhone. So kids only eat at school? How is banning these foods at school going to solve the problem. The problem begins at home with a generation of parents who do not know how to say NO to their children, and never encourage them to leave the couch and their playstation to go out and perform an activity.

These foods were always available in schools in the past and there was not an overwhelming obesity problem. So it makes sense then that these are not the cause of the problem. Spend money teaching parents how to BE parents.
