Can anyone explain this to me?

3 MEN GO INTO A MOTEL. THE MAN BEHIND THE DESK SAID THE ROOM IS $30, SO EACH MAN PAID $10 AND WENT TO THE ROOM.

A WHILE LATER THE MAN BEHIND THE DESK REALIZED THE ROOM WAS ONLY $25, SO HE SENT THE BELLBOY TO THE 3 GUYS' ROOM WITH $5.

ON THE WAY, THE BELLBOY COULDN'T FIGURE OUT HOW TO SPLIT $5 EVENLY BETWEEN 3 MEN, SO HE GAVE EACH MAN A $1 AND KEPT THE OTHER $2 FOR HIMSELF.

THIS MEANT THAT THE 3 MEN EACH PAID $9 FOR THE ROOM, WHICH IS A TOTAL OF $27, ADD THE $2 THAT THE BELLBOY KEPT = $29.

WHERE IS THE OTHER DOLLAR?

Google really seems to be making a play for corporate email

Google Business email makes a lot of sense. $50 per user and 6GB of storage per person. I get 189MB at my job and probably spend an hour or two a week cleaning it up. I just don't see big corps giving up control of their email to an external company. They all fear it's a security risk, when in fact, let's face it... Google's security experts are probably more competent than most companies can afford to hire.

Another study about online social networks has discovered the obvious: people with photos are more likely to be contacted by strangers, and girls get more unwarranted attention than guys. Perhaps the next study could address the "hottness" factor?

Metal detector discovers Vicking treasure

David Pescovitz: Daniel Whelan and his son Andrew were spending their Saturday as usual, walking around Harrogate, North Yorkshire, England, with their metal detector, when the device's beep led to an incredible discovery. The two had stumbled upon a hoard of Viking treasure dating back to the 10th century. The stash, containing silver coins, jewelry, and a gilt silver vessel, came from Afghanistan, Ireland, Russia, and many other places the Viking traveled.

From the BBC News: The pair, from Leeds, said the hoard was worth about £750,000 as a conservative estimate.

They told the BBC News website: "We've been metal detecting for about five years; we do it on Saturdays as a hobby.

"We ended up in this particular field, we got a really strong signal from the detector... Eventually we found this cup containing the coins and told the antiquity authority.

"We were astonished when we finally discovered what it contained..."

It was probably buried for safety by a wealthy Viking leader during the unrest following the conquest of the Viking kingdom of Northumbria in AD927.

A spokeswoman for the (British Museum) said: "The size and quality of the hoard is remarkable, making it the most important find of its type in Britain for over 150 years."

Poor substitute teacher faces 40 years in prison because the average American does not understand Internet technology

This story is making the rounds on the Internet.  Read the Washington post article.  I heard it on Cranky Geeks today.

 

Basically a substitute teacher is in a classroom,. the machines have no anti-spy ware, out of date un-patched software and the school's license for its firewall program has expired.  The kids are looking at a hair product web site which suddenly kicks off a porn attack, opening a number of pornographic web pop ups.  The teacher panics and runs to get someone.  Some of the kids report the incident to their parents.  The teacher is fired and then arrested... tried in a court of law and the jury convicts her and she can now face up to 40 years in prison.

 

It is a perfect example of how technologically challenged most average Americans are.  The judge and the jury, not to mention her incompetent lawyer.  This case should have never made it to a courtroom.  This women was an innocent victim.  The people responsible for the software and hardware in the school district are more guilty than she is, and no one is pressing charges against them.  They are making it out like she brought the porn sites up of her own free will.

 

On March 2nd, if this women is sentenced to jail time, there has been a terrible mis-carriage of justice.
